Visit fifty of the best Paris cafés and sample classic and contemporary French cooking in this well researched and delightful book. The recipes have been adapted to American ingredients and are well written. I am proud to have a signed copy of Mr.. Young's book and am attempting to get owners of each café to sign it as well!
We saw him years ago at the Olympia in Paris and have enjoyed his music ever since. His music is played often in the restaurant; especially since he sings the beautifully haunting song called La Bohème
Although written in 1958, this book is an invaluable resource for the origins of French dishes such as "foie gras de canard" and the raising and preparation of "escargots" Each area of France is discussed in detail as to the specialties of each region and histories of area cooking. A must read if you're planning a culinary tour of France.
Joe Dassin was very popular in the late 1960's and into the mid 70's. He has a very warm voice and has written some beautiful songs such as "So Far Away" and "Et si tu n'existait pas". He died a tragic death several year ago.
"A delightful, sympathetic, and revealing journey into the heart and stomach of the new provincial France. MOre enjoyable and instructive than a recipe book or travel guide" -T. Zeldin, author of "The French"
Becoming a good cook means learning principles that will last you a lifetime in the kitchen; with Simply French, you will never cook the same way again. You will simply be a better cook.
Mary Blume was an International Herald Tribune columnist and lived in Paris for some thirty years. These essays from the I.H.T. and snippets of life in France will bring to the reader a new understanding and insight into this country we all want to visit.
This book is read not only by visitors to Paris but by it's policemen, cab drivers, and inhabitants! These plans or maps come in all shapes and sizes and are essential in getting about Paris with the least amount of hassle and back-tracking. In other words, you'll find it difficult to get lost with one of these in your pocket or purse. Pick one that is easy for you to read. I prefer one with larger print, one way street indicators and street numbers as well as the usual metro station map.
